      General Circular No. 152 Issue Date: April 16, 2010

      Subject: Revision of State Police Commission Rule 9.1

      Pursuant to the provisions of State Police Rule 2.10(a), the State Police Commission will hold a public hearing on May 20, 2010 to consider revision of State Police Rule 9.1. The hearing will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Class Room 5, Building A, State Police Training Academy, 7901 Independence Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

      PROBATIONARY PERIOD

      9.1 Probationary Period

      It is being proposed that Rule 9.1 be amended to read as follows:

      1. The first line of 9.1(a) will read "The probationary period shall be an essential part of . . .” The remainder of that paragraph will remain as written.
2. 9.1(b) will remain as written.

3. Present references to (c) and (d) will be deleted and present (e), (f) and (g)
will be re-designated as (c), (d) and (e).

4. Add, as (f) "The Appointing Authority may request, and the Executive Director
        may grant, up to two successive six month extensions of an employee's probationary period when the request is based on reasonable justification and such extension is in the best interest of the employee and the State Police service. Notwithstanding any other provision of these Rules, an Extension of Probationary Period is not a disciplinary action and may not be appealed to the Commission, except on the basis of discrimination or a violation of the Article or these Rules.
      Please review this proposal and furnish, in writing, by May 12, 2010 any comments which you consider pertinent. If you would like to appear before the Commission and present your comments orally, you are invited to do so. You must notify this office by May 12, 2010 of your intention to address the Commission, in order to be placed on the agenda.

      Please post this General Circular in a prominent place, so that all employees will receive notice of this public meeting. If any special accommodations are needed, please notify us prior to the meeting date.
