FUNCTION OF WORK: |
To install and operate court authorized surveillance devices during State Police criminal investigations, perform optical surveillance operations, and conduct countermeasures for various governmental agencies in order to minimize the threat of illegal eavesdropping. |

JOB DISTINCTIONS: |
Differs from other State Police jobs by specialization in the field of electronic eavesdropping devices. |
EXAMPLES OF WORK: |
Installs Pen Register and wire tap devices at any available point; oversees the proper operation of these devices.
Installs covert audio and/or video surveillance devices in buildings, vehicles, and on people.
Captures and records the audio and video from covert installations.
Conducts eavesdropping countermeasure sweeps using electronic countermeasure equipment and performing physical inspections of the sweep area.
Attends schools to stay abreast of continual advances in equipment and technique in the are of electronic surveillance and countermeasures.
Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment. Conducts field tests on equipment to determine its working status.
Writes and compiles all necessary reports with supporting documentation.
Writes and compiles all necessary reports with supporting documentation.
Maintains files on all cases involving the use of electronic or technical surveillance.
Supervises and trains assigned personnel on a project basis. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |
Four years of experience as a Louisiana State Police Officer. One year of required experience must have been in the field of criminal investigation or criminal intelligence involving the installation and operation of electronic surveillance devices. |
Note: Qualifying criminal intelligence or criminal investigation experience is that experience gained while assigned to a unit whose primary function is in the field of criminal intelligence/investigations such as:
Region I - Narcotics
Region II - Narcotics
Region III - Narcotics
Region I - Detectives
Region II - Detectives
Region III - Detectives
Intelligence/Investigative Support Section
(Including the various disciplines of Gaming Enforcement/Investigation Units)
