JOB TITLE:State Police Financial Investigator

FUNCTION OF WORK:

Conducts investigations of economic-related and influenced crimes.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Advanced Journeyman.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

General from a State Police Captain.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Project basis over commissioned and/or civilian State Police employees.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Department of Public Safety and Corrections; Office of State Police; Bureau of Investigation; Investigative Support Section.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from State Police Captain by lack of managerial responsibility for the command of a Section or Troop.

Differs from other State Police Commissioned officers by the additional responsibility for the specialization of conducting financial enforcement investigations.

Differs from an Auditor 2 by having full law enforcement authority, including the responsibility for the conduct of criminal investigations, and the arrest of suspects believed to have violated Louisiana State laws.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Investigates multi-defendant conspiracies involving complex financial crimes.

Conducts investigations into the illegal laundering of monies derived from criminal enterprises, such as narcotics trafficking.

Instructs commissioned officer and civilian personnel of the State Police and other law enforcement agencies in the basic methodology of investigating financial crimes.

Makes arrests as necessary.

Consults on a statewide basis with prosecutors and other law enforcement officials relative to criminal audit matters being handled directly by their offices: and, provides technical advice on procedures to be employed and offers interpretations and opinions relative to examination of findings.

Reviews work of practicing Certified Public accountants who were involved with examined entities, and when necessary, challenges their findings in court.

Renders professional opinions and expert court testimony relative to accounting and auditing matters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a Louisiana State Police law enforcement commission and a certified Public Accountant’s certificate.
